FAQ

Newborn: When is the best time to book my session?

For newborns, your tentative session date can be booked at any time during your pregnancy. However, I recommend contacting me during your second trimester to ensure my availability around your due date. I will record it on my calendar, and when you let me know your baby has been born we will schedule your session.

A studio newborn session is best done when your baby is under two weeks of age. At this stage babies are very sleepy and flexible, making this time ideal for photos. I will photograph older newborns up to six weeks of age, but your baby may be awake, and the posing style may need to be altered for their comfort. A great alternative is lifestyle newborn photography, which is not reliant on baby being sleepy and flexible. Lifestyle newborn photos are taken in the comfort of your home, and focus more on the bond between your family members and places baby would naturally be, such as their crib, bassinet, or a parent's arms.

Your baby's safety and comfort is my top priority. The session will last 2-3 hours for a single baby, 3-4 for twins. This allows me to follow your baby's lead and ensure a stress-free environment with plenty of time for feeding, changing, and settling.

Older Babies: When is the best time to book my session?

For older babies, the best time for your session is between 6 and 9 months, when baby is sitting up confidently on their own. These photos showcase how much baby has changed since their newborn days, and capture their emerging personality and adorable expressions.

The session lasts 45 minutes to an hour, and baby is encouraged to play and be themselves. Poses captured may include sitting, laying down, crawling, rolling over, playing with their feet, doing tummy time, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Cake Smash - When is the best time to book?

I recommend choosing a session date 3-4 weeks before your baby's first birthday, depending on what you plan to do with the photos. If you're planning to use your baby's photo on their invitations or display prints at a party or put on invitations, book earlier to ensure there is enough time to process your photos and products.

This session lasts 45 minutes to an hour, and includes a few portraits of baby before they get messy with cake, the cake smash photos, and a few adorable photos from a bubble bath afterwards.

How to choose an outfit for photos

All sessions include access to my studio wardrobe, which has outfits for babies ranging from preemie to size 18 months, as well as a small selection of white dresses (bump friendly) for Mom.

For newborns, I recommend having baby photographed in a plain white onesie, just a diaper, or swaddled in blankets.

As they are your photos, I always welcome outfits you have brought from home as well. I recommend avoiding graphic images and logos as they take the focus away from baby, and distract from the simplicity and emotion in the images.

If you'd like feedback on the outfit you have planned, I'm happy to discuss it with you!

Can I post my photos? Can I print my photos anywhere?

You are free to do as you please with your photos, although I would appreciate being credited on social media! I require that clients do not alter my photos with filters. I stand behind my work and process my images to reflect a certain style and I ensure consistency for my brand.

All of my packages include digital files as well as a print credit for you to order custom artwork from my store. You are free to print your own photos as well. However, this means I no longer have quality control over your images. When printing photos to display in your home, I recommend that you avoid inexpensive photo centers. Not all photo centers are created equally. A professional photo lab uses higher quality paper, inks, and coatings to ensure your images are resistant to fading, scratches, dust, and fingerprints, and is calibrated to my monitor to ensure the colours are true-to-life. You may not notice the shift in color or lack of sharpness now, but you will notice over time. Don't let your investment go to waste! I'm happy to offer guidance if needed.

How much do you edit your photos?

Hand retouching is included in every photo package. I sharpen features, correct any uneven lighting, camera lens distortion, or color casts, and I retouch babies' skin. This involves removing red skin patches, rashes, scratches, and dry skin flakes, as well as any bumps and bruises that are so common with babies who are learning to walk and crawl.

This is standard because high resolution photos pick up every detail and I believe if it isn't a permanent feature of their face, it doesn't need to be preserved in high definition. I aim to preserve a natural look, so I carefully hand edit each image, removing the marks one by one so the look is as subtle as possible.

What's the best way to contact me?

I prefer to communicate by email during business hours, as it leaves a paper trail to reference and ensures I won't forget something we've discussed.

I'm happy to schedule a phone call or zoom meeting as well at a time that works for both of us, so we can get to know each other more!

How do I book a session?

To book your session after you've reached out to me and we've agreed upon a date, I will email you my client agreement contract to collect your booking information, secure your tentative session type, date, and time, and collect your session fee.

What is your mask policy? Are you vaccinated?

Updated Answer March 2023: I have three vaccinations for Covid, an updated TDAP, and my seasonal flu shot as well. I am happy to wear a mask during any indoor photo session if requested, and I will always do so for newborns. For older babies, I leave the decision up to the parents as some babies respond better to seeing my happy smile and other facial expressions, and some are perfectly comfortable with the mask.

Do you take walk-ins?

Due to the nature of having a home-based studio, I do not accept walk-ins. You are welcome to send an email to ask if I have had any recent cancellations, however I am usually booked a few months in advance.
